Meet Cody!
"In 2005 I adopted an adult male German Shepherd from Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter. The staff at MOAS thought that he was somewhere between three and five years of age. He and possibly two siblings had been abandoned and left to die by starvation. Some wonderful person found them and took them to MOAS and that is where I met Cody for the first time. He was malnourished and had more ticks on him than could be counted. Cody has been a loving, devoted, protective, proud and playful member of our family since then.
But about a year ago he began to develop some changes, we noticed. Some of these changes included sleeping more, walking and running less and having more difficulty getting up and down, and then we had to accept the fact that he was definitely in pain most of his awake time. Cody then began to withdraw from family activities and appeared sad.
We took Cody to Madison Animal Hospital in Danielsville to be seen by Dr. Allene Phillips, who has been our pets' veterinarian for several years. Right away she began to do diagnostic work to try to find the cause of Cody's decline and the source of his pain. Through this process she found that sometime in the past Cody had been shot in the chest and front legs and he still had implanted numerous buckshots in those areas. Seeing that the buckshot could possibly still be embedded in the joints in his front legs, Dr. Phillips referred him to a surgeon. After a thorough examination, the surgeon told us that there was nothing he could do to improve Cody's condition except place him on a weight reduction diet and long term anti-inflammatory medication, which would possibly cause gastro-intestinal problems.
Feeling pretty discouraged about Cody's situation I began to pray for acceptance of these changes in him. It was also at this time that Dr. Phillips began to talk to me about a chiropractor she knew that had done marvelous things to help animals that were having difficult, painful ambulation. I thought about this a lot and decided that we had nothing to lose by trying and possibly a lot to gain if this worked for Cody.
That was June 2010. As we began his chiropractic visits, he had no fear of the manipulations done by Dr. Daley to correct and properly adjust his vertebrae to align his hips and withers. As a matter of fact, it was very pleasing to watch him as Dr. Daley adjusted and manipulated his spinal column; it brought him instant relief and a happy face. Cody now has a greater degree of stability and range of motion throughout his hips. The vertebrae at the site of the withers continue to slide out of alignment which causes him to limp on his right front leg, but with much less degree. He seems to be happy again!
We are continuing our visits with Dr. Dayle and hope that she stays in our area for a very long time. We will continue to see Dr. Daley until Cody is the best he can be. A very big thank you to Dr. Allene Phillips, Dr. Gaile Daley, and all the staff at Madison Animal Hospital."
